Cleaning up

Question

Everyone : When I use VB I'm used to writing Set l_objModel = Nothing when I'm done with an object. I'm not sure of proper Cleaning up strategies in C#. Does anyone have some advise or maybe they can point me to an article about this subject. Thanks Dale Williams

When using c# you dont need to clean up yourself. Memory management is taken care of by the .net plattform. When a variable goes out of scope (ie no code can use it) then it becomes eligible for garbage collection which means that the garbage collector will eventually reclaim the memory taken by that object and give it back to the heap. You might still need to write some clean-up code if you are using other resources (database connections files network connections...). In this case you will have to implement a destructor. A destructor is a method that gets called automatically when the object becomes garbage collected.
