does Common Language Runtime achieve Platform independence to .NET environment ? or it only gives Language independence to .NET environment ?

CLR give Language Independence to .NET framework. Platform independence is achieved rewriting and adapting .NET framework to another platform but CLR have something to see with this because your .exe/dll run in windows or linux (without any change binary compatibility) if you have proper framework. Actually Microsoft have rotor an shared source framework implementation that run over unix and macintosh an mono an open source initiative for a linux's framework. Federico
