Return type is ArrayList . The difference between Array and ArrayList is that Arrays are collection of items which are of same type with a fixed size where are ArrayList is collection of items that's can actually increase or decrease its size dynamically. So In this case Array's just returns the type of items that's in the collection where incase of ArrayList the return type is ArrayList  As your collection could be of any type. using System; using System.Collections; class Program { static void Main() { // // Create an ArrayList with 4 strings. // ArrayList list = new ArrayList(); list.Add(fish); list.Add(amphibian); list.Add(bird); list.Add(plant); // // Get last two elements in ArrayList. // ArrayList range = list. GetRange (2 2); // // Display the elements. // foreach (string value in range) { Console.WriteLine(value); // bird plant } } } In this case my output will be birdplant.
