Converting Binary data to Text Data

Question

I have a large binary data file and would like to convert it tO ASCII before reading it into a database. Does anyone know how to make thi conversion of data from a Binary format to an ASCII format?

Just an FYI...this was posted in April.. before the Forums took their summer vacation..I doubt the user is checking it regularly..

Couple questions what kind of database is it? In SQL you could just store the binary in an image field.
