If you're trying to access types in the System.Windows namespace then they should be available as long as you're creating a WPF project : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.aspx Visual Studio will add references to the appropriate dlls automatically. So are you sure that you've not created some other type of project (such as Windows Forms) instead?
