Cutting string and converting it

Hi, If I have a string, how can I get the string without the last character and then convert it to an integer? Thank you

To get the first letter as a string you can do: s = s.Substring(0,1) or to get it as a char: char c = s[0];

Where did I say we should always use TryParse ? I certainly did intend to say however that we should not always use Parse.

Although you should use int.TryParse most of the time, you shouldn't always use it. If you know for sure that the string you're parsing is numeric (which it sounds from your opening post that you do) then it's more efficient to use int.Parse which has a simpler implementation.

Note that developers often use Parse and then the code crashes when the string does not have a number. I suggest using Int32.TryParse instead and then the program will not crash with bad data.

Try: string s = "1024t"; // or whatever s = s.Substring(0, s.Length - 1); int i = int.Parse(s);
