Data From Defined Class

Question

If I have a class

public enum Product : byte
{
Hammer = 1,
Nails = 2,
Screwdriver = 3
}

And want to show a messagebox that displays Hammer when its sent a 1 is this possible.?

@ Tanmay Hajra Thank you thats perfect :D I was wondering if you could advise me on this please product.Text = (Enum.GetName( typeof (Variables.product) Convert.ToInt32(product.Text))); The textbox's on the form are filled from a Datagrid View. The Textbox product gets filled with an int which I want to change to text using the code above. How can I do this becuase my code doesnt work. I could use a label hidden then populate the TextBox but thought I would see if there was another way.. Regards Jay

Jay. Is there any Error or Exception you are facing while executing the code? I have gone through the code you have written and I think if u have valid integer value (obviously Not NULL value ) in your Product textbox while executing the code it should work. :) However please tell me the exact issue you are facing .

your requirement is strange and opposite to what everyone in programming want. what is easy to identify and remember in code? words like hammer nails etc. which can be easily written and then identified by their key values like 100 1001 etc. or by something like 123 and god know's what is that. anyways coming to your question if you want to access hammer by writing 1 then enum is not going to work. as per MSDN: The approved types for an enum are byte  sbyte short ushort int uint long or ulong. so enum cannot hold value Hammer for the key 1 I suggest you use dictionary https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.collections.generic.dictionary-2?view=netframework-4.7
