Hi What is the role of DataSet in ADO.NET?

Yes a DataSet can contain relations; the documentation is very clear about that. Anyone that wants to understand DataSets should read the documentation. Note that I meant to add to what Pravin said since a DataSet can contain data from many possible sources not just ResultSets of a SqlCommand or Adapter.

Hi Rajesh Dataset:- It is a disconnected  Cached set of records.It may be called as a virtual database which contains tablesrowscolumns.It is of two types Typed dataset and untyped dataset Typed dataset:- It has an associated xml schema.We can insert additional columns in the typed dataset. Untyped dataset:- It doesnot have an associated xml schema.We cannot insert additional columns here. Thanks

As Prabhu said a DataSet is a container that can take data and store within. It has capabilities of storing data in a relational structure and hence can store multiple database tables and their relationships.

A DataSet is essentially a collection of tables. The tables can come from multiple places; they can come from a XML file a database a SQL query or a program can create the tables during excution or they can come from other things.

Hi Rajesh Role of DataSet is to store multiple resultsets in the form of tables.......because many times your SqlCommand or Adapter returns multiple result set so we can store it in DataSet and fetch it one by one ............ e.g SqlDataAdapter ad = new SqlDataAdapter(SELECT * FROm CategoriesmyConnection); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ad.Fill(dsCategories); DataTable dt = ds.Tables[Categories]; Thanxhope it will help you.
