Datatype for alphanumeric value

Hi, Can anybody help me what is the datatype for alphanumeric value in sql server. i have set char and varchar but not getting output, please can anybody help me.

You can just the field format by highlighting the data contains in the field then change the format to text (in Excel) Save the file then try to upload the file again, it will work!

Hi kavya, I saw values you posted.It happens because of formating problems like .(dot) cooma or other escape character cuming .i had gone through same problem once. so i had adjusted values by formating using single quote ,double quotes according to need. so you have to do formating,you not mention which column is going null....i think its Description One...... Right ? if i was able to get your excel as it is ,it was easy for me to fetch problem....still u can try formating values which are going null...... or try to reply with rar file.......i copy pasted it in excel but not getting in proper format........... Hi pravin, can you able to see now, image is not possible to paste in editor area so i copied in table sorry if anything wrong is there. In this product id contailns alphanumeric values and also in some places decimal values alphanumeric and decimal values are not copied properly in database table. please refer it and tell me which datatype is suited for this. Hi prabhu, What i am doing is, in excel sheet i am having around 50000 rows of data, iam coping this excel sheet data to sql data base table by using the import and export functions in sql server, i have copied but in one column of excel sheet alphanumeric characters with decimal places is there for example 782ACg68.39. this data is not copied properly it showing NULL values for that particular row. i am not getting how to fix this problem. please help me regarding this.

Hi, Please try this, varchar: the varchar data type holds alphanumeric data; just like char but with flexible size, you just set the maximum number of characters, maximum size is 8,000 character. nvachar: it's defined in samilier way to varcar but it uses unicode.Hope this will help you. Hello Kavya, varchar is datatype for storing alphanumeric values. I think, you can't get output because of some other reasons. can you show you table structure.
