DateTime VS TimeStamp?

Hi In the article that kirtan pointed in my concurrency thread shows the it's an industrial practise to use TimeStamp Column on tables that is used to handle concurencies. However in certail articles mentioned that use DateTime Column some say MS might remove TimeStamp... What would be the best type for updatedColumn of table? TY

Diffrence Between TimeStamp and DateTime The DATETIME type is used when you need values that contain both date and time information. The TIMESTAMP data type has a range of '1970-01-01 00:00:01' UTC to '2038-01-09 03:14:07' UTC DateTime Occupies 8 Bytes TimeStamp Occupies 4 Bytes ---------------------------------------------- Now Question What to Use Instead of time Stamp ???? the Microsoft MSDN itself Says Use rowversion instead of time stamp may be Microsoft will remove the timestamps but it can not remove the mechanism behind it because its very impotent mechanism used widely in the world can you imagine Microsoft will remove its support from sql Server ??? so its mechenism always be there as rowversion Note :- When you create Database using GUI interface of SQl Server there is no Datatype Like rowversion but you can create table with query create table dbo.Part ( partid int identity(11) not null primary key partname nvarchar(50) not null unique sku nvarchar(50) not null rowid rowversion not null )
