Eval means evaluate expressions. Eval is used for unidirectional (readonly) data binding. Eval(id) will bind the column id value to the controls. Eval(id~/Default.aspx?id={0} {0} - Place holder. The number between the braces is zero indicating that the first parameter will hold column id value. e.g. you having column id value as 10 then ~/Default.aspx?id=10
