Tell me the clear difference between method and function. I am bit confused

Hi Chetan Don;t worry about that. method=>its always will be called by any other object.(e.g c# methodalways will be called using object.) function=>no need to use other object to call (e.g javascript functionprintfscanfetc....) mark as answer if you satisfied .

Hi Functions Functions have independent existence means they can be defined outside of the class. Ex:- main() function in C C++ Language Functions are defined in structured languages like PascalC and object based language like javaScript Functions are called independently. Functions are self describing unit of code. Methods Methods do not have independent existence they are always defined with in class. Ex:- main() method in C# Language that is defined with in a class Methods are defined in object oriented languages like C# Java Methods are called using instance or object. Hi Chetan Methods are two types 1.Value returning 2.Non-value returning The Value returning methods are called function means a function never be a void type. That is the only difference

Ok Now after seeing this question only i actually thought of this. Is there any difference between them? As of now i though both were same with two names as far as c# is concerned. Bt after some googling i found that most people had this doubt and many thinks it's same like me. Some points i found out after googling is that a function can be called with just its name. But a method can be called using an object. That is methods are contained in a class where as functions resides in pages which can be called directly without any objects. So basically methods are functions inside class. Hope someone will have better explanation for this.

Hi Chetan As far as C# c++ Java etc are concerned both are similar. For VB/VB.NET methods does not return any and called subroutine where as function can returns value. Hope this will help you out.
