dot net platform independent or not

Hi friends Is dot net platform independent or not? is it possible to deploy dot net application in linux of solaris? what is the technology behind it ? can u justify it?

There are two implementations of the .NET platform. Mono and Portable .NET which can target Linux and Solaris: http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page http://dotgnu.info/ C# MSIL the CLI and a large part of the .NET framework libraries were designed to be platform independent and have been standardized by both ECMA and ISO. This enables organizations other than Microsoft to port .NET to other platforms which is what Novell and DotGNU have done mainly for Unix based operating systems.
