Can we send a mail using asp.net without the server???

Hi Prajwal, Take this one example of Console application :- Add a reference to the System.Web.dll namespace. To do this, follow these steps: On the Project menu, click Add Reference . On the .NET tab, locate System.Web.dll , and then click Select . Note In visual Studio 2005, you do not have to click Select . Click OK in the Add References dialog box to accept your selections. If you receive a prompt to generate wrappers for the libraries that you selected, click Yes . Correct, .Net does not provide a way to receive email. Please note that there are articles in this web site that show how to receive email.

To my knowledge, ASP.NET does not include a POP3 (email receive ) component. SMTP is for sending only while a Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server holds incoming email messages until you check your email. go thro' this link u will findout one library Indy.Sockets which is useful for receiving mail in asp.net http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/POP3ClientByChadZHower.aspx ( if ur using gmail then might need to do some settings also in gmail settings->Forwarding & POP/IMAP -> enable POP for all mail & enable IMAP )

The System.Web.Mail Namespace documentation says that MailMessage is obsolete; use System.Net.Mail instead. I suggest looking at the articles in this web site.

Search for System.Web only in .Net tab , it shd b thr. and if u are building this code in asp.net website & not in console then u dnt need to add this ref. it wil b alredy present . so add only using System.Web.Mail at d top of ur code.

hi prajwal for sending email from ur web app u must need the smtp server which have the capability of sending mail if u r organization have smtp server u can use it or u can go for another smtp server like smtp.gmail.com
