The input domain data is divided into different equivalence data classes. This method is typically used to reduce the total number of test case s to a finite set of testable test cases still covering maximum requirements. In short it is the process of taking all possible test cases and placing them into classes. One test value is picked from each class while testing. Consider a scenario where if age is between 18 and 40  then issue admission in the college. Now you no need to write test cases for all ages from 0-100. Instead of that you can write one valid scenario where age is between 18 and 40 and two invalid scenarios 40. 1. Enter any age between 18-40. Eg-23 2 Enter age 3 Enter age >40 say for eg-50 So using equivalence partitioning you have categorized all possible test cases into three classes. Test cases with other values from any class should give you the same result. Equivalence partitioning uses fewest test cases to cover maximum requirements.

Hi Megha Equivalence partitioning is a black box testing method that divides the input domain of a program into classes of data from which test cases can be derived. EP can be defined according to the following guidelines: 1. If an input condition specifies a range one valid and one two invalid classes are defined. 2. If an input condition requires a specific value one valid and two invalid equivalence classes are defined. 3. If an input condition specifies a member of a set one valid and one invalid equivalence class are defined. 4. If an input condition is Boolean one valid and one invalid class are defined. Thanks
