Equivalent for sqlserver isnull(E.Empid'') in Linq How to check the nulls in linq please help me

I think Naresh wants to get it in the select list: var query = from emp in context.Employee select new{ EmployeeId = emp.EmpId ??  //think use of ?? is better in case of checking null than use of ? EmployeeName = emp.FirstName +   + emp.LastName }; HTH. Happy Programming!!! Regards Raja

Raja good point about the null coalescing operator '??' :) I tend to overlook this unless I'm working with nullable types but you're right - it can be used with reference types such as string too.

It does create an extra variable but it's local to the query and so gets destroyed when there's no longer any references to the query.

I was thinking you'd need to incorporate a 'let' clause: let temp = (E.Empid == null) ?  : E.Empid and then use 'temp' in the rest of the query

for eg: try like this.. var a = from b in tbl where e.Empid = (Empid == null ? 0 : Empid);
