Faculty Database Project

Question

I have a project to make. Its a faculty database in my department.
This application will be accessed by many users. There will be only one user who would make the entries, but multiple users might use it to produce reports and obtain information.
Could anyone please tell me what technologies do I need to know learn and use for this project.
Are VB.net as front end and SQL server/MySQL/MS Access ok as a backend deployed on a database server.

i wanted to know if create the project on a stand alone computer will it be easy enough to then deploy the database onto a server. I will just need to change the database connection code right or will there be other complexities involved. Also should I begin it as a simple Windows Application project under visual basic projects or as a setup and deployment project. Thank you

You might take a look at the VB.NET starter kits for ideas: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/ms789080.aspx There are at least two that might be of interest to you (with a little modification); one is web based and one is Win forms based. The Win forms based one is called the Teacher Starter Kit and is actually intended for a teacher to keep track of students. However with modifications to the thing you could probably use that general idea. The web based starter kit that might be of interest is called the Club Website Starter Kit; if you thing of the school as the club and the faculty as the members it would not take a lot of imagination to figure out how to get that one up and running for your purposes.
