file name taken in a textbox without extension and want to check that it already present in a specified directory. if exists want to display an error msg.. i have following code with me.

If you want to check whether any file of that name exists (ignoring the extension) in the specified directory then I'd use instead: using System.IO; // ..... if (Directory.GetFiles(directoryPath textBox1.Text.Trim() + .*).Length > 0) { MessageBox.Show(File(s) with that name already exist); }
