fps

Question

does anyone know how to display fps in a basic 3d application ? looking at samples from sdk it seems you need a lot of code just for that. thanks in advance

Its not too bad I like to user performance counters. you can import from Kernal32.dll: [DllImport(kernel32)] private static extern bool QueryPerformanceFrequency(ref long Frequency); & [DllImport(kernel32)] private static extern bool QueryPerformanceCounter(ref long Count); You will need to use QueryPerformanceFrequency this will return the ticks per second of the CPU its running on. Then you can call: QueryPerformanceCounter to get the current # of ticks. SO: setup a function to get the CPU freq via. QueryPerformanceFrequency from there on you can call QueryPerformanceCounter and compare ticks between calls. You know that it takes Frequency number of ticks to equal 1 second so you get the ticks before your render happens then get the ticks after get the differance and devide by Frequency and that gives you # of seconds per render. BAD PSUDO-CODE FOLLOWS: QueryPerformanceFrenquency(ref lFrequency); // Get CPU frequency in ticks per second QueryPerformanceCounter(ref lBeforeRender); // Current # Cpu Ticks RENDER CODE HERE; //Do something for sometime. QueryPerformanceCounter(ref LAfterRender); // Current # Cpu ticks FPS = (lAfterRender - lBeforeRender) / lFrequency;
