The code should be put in the Page_Load handler within the 'if' statement so that the last number only loads once from the database not on each post-back.

If you've made the date column a primary key or given it the unique constraint in the database then you won't be able to save two records with the same date in the database. However if you use a full date/time including seconds (and possibly milliseconds) then you should be OK as the times when individual records are saved should then be unique.

Have you added the time component in the way that I suggested? Also is the column type in the database one that supports both date and time - in other words is it something other than the 'date' type which only supports dates?

ToLongDateString() will give you something like 28 August 2014. If you want both the date and time and want to be reasonably sure the datebase will accept it I'd use: ToString (yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss).

I write ToLongDate instead of Tostring for getting day and date but got a error when inserting.. Error-Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.

AFAIK it's not possible to set a time using the Calendar control. If you want to graft the current time onto whatever the selected date is you could do this: DateTime dt = Calendar1.SelectedDate + DateTime.Now.TimeOfDay; As I said earlier I don't use Crystal Reports. Well if you're obtaining the date from the Calendar control it will show as 12.00 am because the control can only deal with dates and the time component will always therefore be zero hours. If you want to insert the current date and time  I'd use DateTime.Now rather than Calendar1.SelectedDate. Sorry I don't use Crystal Reports. I'd either search for an article on it or ask the question again in a new thread.

Well I'm not surprised it's not working because the code to get the latest Challen number from the database when the page loads and to store the incremented number in Session state when the ImageButton is clicked is all commented out! Anyway I've tried to reconstruct it below. Unfortunately I can't test this as I don't have any ASP.NET stuff on the machine I'm using just now so there may be bugs. Ideally the SqlConnection object should be stored globally but I've stored it in Session state for now. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem but it appears that for some reason a new session is being started before the previous value can be saved to the database. Can you post your code and I'll have another look at it when I have more time.

Hello sir seen is that i have taken a calender imagethat is when i click a image button of calender at that time calender will show....and then we will select a date...In our case when i will click on calender button for showing calender at that time last value of challen no is not taken....i.e if our database value is AS002 and we will run the project when page loading at that time value is incremented i.e AS003 BUT when i click on image button at that time it will reset to AS002..Whats the problem?please give me solution as early as possible..thanks...

I didn't follow how your imagebutton and calendar controls are associated with each other. If you click on the imagebutton then I can't think of any obvious reason why the code wouldn't work the same as for an 'ordinary' button. However if you click on the calendar control then there isn't a Click event as such. However there is a SelectionChanged event. Can you clarify the position here.
