get values from linq

Question

var results = from u in dc.Tran1

  where u.UserId == userId
 select
 new
{
 ID = u.UserId,
TranId = u.TransId,
};
i have  a query like above in my controller 
how to get values from above query like id and tranid into some other variables

If the other variables are in the same method as the LINQ code and you want to access the first result say you can simply do: var v = results.First(); string id = v.ID; // assuming it's a string string tranId = v.TranID; // ditto However if the variables are in a different method then the situation is more awkward. As methods can't return anonymous types (or IEnumerables thereof) except in a very limited way I'd use a named type instead: public class IdCombo { public string ID { get; set; } public string TranId { get; set; } } IEnumerable results = from u in dc.Tran1 where u.UserId == userId select new IdCombo { ID = u.UserId TranId = u.TransId }; You can then change the return type of the method to IEnumerable and return 'results'. This can then be iterated by the calling code and you can access the ID and TranId properties from there. Although I don't like them much as an alternative to a named type you can also use a Tuple. However you'd then need to access the properties using Item1 and Item2 rather than their actual names.
