Basically, it provides eventhandlers for application and session events. By default there are skeleton handlers for 5 events included within global.asax to which you can add your own code: 1. Application_Start 2. Application_End 3. Application_Error 4. Session_Start 5. Session_End Typical uses for these event handlers include: 1. Initialize application state variables 2. Save application state variables to disk, where necessary 3. Default handler for otherwise uncaught exceptions 4. Initialize session state variables 5. Free resources and log off user
