I am also having the similar issue as yours on the C# gridview control . As what above said I remembered the gridview hyperlink column  I thought that would be of help.

you need to pass the record id on the click of hyperlink you can do this by adding hyperlink on gridview. ex asp : HyperLinkField DataNavigateUrlFields = NameID DataNavigateUrlFormatString = ~/details.aspx?nameid={0} DataTextField = name HeaderText = Client Name SortExpression = Name ItemStyle - Width = 100px ItemStyle - Wrap = true /> in details.aspx take the id from query string and show the detail
