hi It is not compulsory to use aggregate function with group by clause but columns with select statement must define in group by clause try... create Table #test ( emp int salary money department int ) insert into #test values(1100001) insert into #test values(210001) insert into #test values(3444441) insert into #test values(4100002) insert into #test values(5100003) SELECT emp FROM #test WHERE Salary=10000 GROUP BY emp department hope this will help you.

Hey you cant use group by clause like this. You can use group by clause with aggregate function like AVGMAX MIN. Please tell what output do you expect.

this query does not contain a agr. function .its give an error.
