-HELP- Adding up Total from Subtotal.

Question

I am new to programming I have 2 textbox's one is the subtotal and total when i put in a bunch of numbers in the subtotal i want it to total up. thanks william

As you're using the ListView's SelectedIndexChanged event it will do. If you re-select a line that's already been processed it will be processed again because the method has no way of knowing what's already been processed. If you're going to transfer the subtotal to the second column of the ListView then the method could check whether there's already something in that column and if there is just return without doing anything.

I did something with the code and got to work but one thing lol when I click on the listview items the total keeps adding up after i did one add of the subtotal.

The problem here is that you're resetting the total to zero each time you calculate a new sub-total with these lines: double totResult = 0; txtTotal.Text = totResult.ToString(c); Try replacing all the code from this line downwards: double subResult = sum1 * sum2; with this: double subResult = sum1 * sum2; double totResult; double.TryParse(txtTotal.Text.Substring(1) out totResult); totResult += subResult; txtSubTotal.Text = subResult.ToString(c); txtTotal.Text = totResult.ToString(c);

Yea i followed it to the tee everytime i create an item in the listview it should add to the total from the subtotal. here is the code you given me.

Are you sure you've written: total += subTotal; and not: total = subTotal;

That works and doesnt work the total shows up but shows the same as the subtotal. we need to increment it by adding the subtotals to the totals like 36.00 plus 24.00 = 60.00 in the totals. Again thanks for your time.

I think it's the dollar signs which are causing the problem. example. I have a listview and 2 textboxs when i type the numbers in txtPrice and txtQuantity and multiply them i get the subtotal when I select the item from the listview i get the total now when I add another item doing it all over again with price and quantity and get the subtotal i should get an update in the total textbox by adding those 2 items. I should have been more clearer. sorry

It's working OK on my machine if the numbers are separated by spaces. For example if I enter this in the subtotal box: 12 15.3 17 20 25.1 and click the button the total box (correctly) shows: 89.4 So are you separating the numbers with something else such as a comma?

It didn't work it didnt total the numbers from subtotal I want it to add the totals from the subtotal numbers.

If the numbers are separated by one or more spaces and you want to sum them when you click a button (btnTotal say) then this should work.
