High Water Mark in Sql Server

What is High Water Mark in SQL and why it is used with Truncate statement?

Hi Lucy High Water Mark is max. space a particular table occupied till that point. that doesn't mean that one cannot insert records more than a HWM. Once HWM is crossed a new HWM is set for a table. And In case of truncate it has to reset to zero thats why its used with truncate. Thanx Pravin.
