How can I convert the collection object to an int?

Here is my code object sO = locations.Find(e.Source); I want to convert the object to an int so I can manipulate the values extracted from the collection.

Aha hmmm... Then maybe you should cast it to an ArrayList then see what is inside the ArrayList. ArrayList al = (ArrayList) sO; foreach(object o in al) { Console.WriteLine(o); } Simon

The GetType says it's a Systems.Collections.ArrayList

Check type with Type t = sO.GetType(); It cannot be an int (otherwise the cast wouldn't fail) but what else? Simon

Yes locations is the collection.

Do you have casted the object? Respectivly have you tried Convert.ToInt32(...)? Simon

It's giving this error: Cannot implicitly convert type 'object' to 'int' I am using a Collection that is an ArrayList using the IList interface and trying to figure out how to Get the value's out of the collection. I don't want to use enumeration because I am manually putting in the Keys and don't just want to traverse through it sequentially.

Convert.ToInt32(sO); may also work with check in one row: int i= (sO is int)?(int)sO:0;

If sO is type Int32 than you can cast it down. int i = (int) sO; If necessairy check first the type: int i; if (sO is int) { i = (int) sO; } Simon
