In which sequence objects will get destroyed ? Like Variable, DataSet etc..

How Does Garbage Collector differs in Each Version of .NET framework. I mean till .NET 4.0.

I don't know whether I'm imagining things but I could have sworn that you asked this before and said you already knew the answer to the first part from reading the articles in the side bar to the right of this thread? Anyway I'll try to say something about the other two questions. Once the garbage collector has 'marked' those objects which are eligible for GC it checks to see whether each one has a destructor by looking at an internal structure known as the 'finalization list'. When an object is created which has a destructor then a reference to it is put on the finalization list and so the GC only needs to check this list. If an object is on the list then it's removed from it and appended to another internal structure known as the 'freachable queue'. Those objects which haven't been added to the queue are then destroyed in sequence. The objects which have been put on the queue survive until the next garbage collection (and may be resurrected in some circumstances). They are then removed from the queue (a FIFO structure) their destructor is called and the object's memory reclaimed. Only minor changes were made to the garbage collector by the various versions of the .NET CLR before 4.0. If you want to know all the details of how the garbage collector works then I'd suggest you buy a 'heavyweight' book such as Jeffrey Richter's 'CLR via C#' which devotes 71 pages to the subject.
