How many web configuration file we can use in asp.net using c#

HI Selvi, There is no restriction to use the web.config file in the asp.net web application. You can have more than one web config in one asp.net application , but it is not advisable to do such a thing. (if you have many folders and each folder have seperate web.config. then the files inside folder give first prefernce to the config files in the same folder.. so you can differnent authentuication and keywords.) Generally a website contains a single Web.config file stored inside the application root directory. However there can be many configuration files that manage settings at various levels within an application.

Hi Selvi, Visual studio no restricted to use this configuration file in the application. But it can't have many web.config file on the same directory. Usually they architected to use some priority basis. You can define in the machine.config file and application can use. It is like global configuration for the server. If you want to define separate configuration then web.config file for web application. Every application have separate web.config file in the root folder. In case, you have different requirement for the separate pages in folder wise. Because some of the properties in the web.config file will not allow you to define many times. So based on the need you can have many web.config file in the application in folder wise. But it will allow only one per the directory. Hope this will help you.

Hi Selvi, There is no restriction to use the web.config file in the asp.net web application. When you create the asp.net web site, it will create the default configuration file in the root. There can be one web.config file in every folder of the application. The priority will take from the inner folders to upwards. If you have the folder1 in the application and create the web.config file. Then what every you define in the settings will impact only the folder1 aspx pages. If there is no web.config file then it will look into the next level. But it is advisiable to use only one web.config its better to have single web.config for the entire application.. If required can have each one for a specific folder in the application.
