How should i start to build my career as Business Analyst?

Question

I am a software engineer and have 2 years of experience in .net technology. How can i start to build my career in data ware housing, data mining and business intelligence. can you please suggest steps? should i go through any certification?

Hi Vishal Firstly I want to thank Vincent for recommending my articles to you in his reply. Vincent I do appreciate that. Vishal I do see two different paths which you are kind of mixing. SQL BI and Data Mining are two different streams. I mean Data Mining and related tools are used by people who has a lot of data analyst related experience. Whereas SQL BI (especially SSRS and SSIS) is widely used by most of .NET developers. Let me also tell you that SQL BI will reap you greater benefits than Data Mining as you are already a .NET programmer and this maps to your job profile and will add an extra feather in your developer's hat. I have been using SQL BI for many years and time to time I have proposed and designed various business solutions using SQL BI (SSRS and SSIS). Let's talk a bit about 3rd component of SQL BI (SSAS) which addresses Data Mining related needs; this is not very commonly used by .NET developers and besides if time comes anyone who has worked with SSRS and SSIS can easily grasp that. So my recommendation is to go for low hanging fruits 1st and add SSRS & SSIS skills in your skill set then look for an opportunity or business case where you can use either one of those or both; if at all possible. You also asked about Certification I don't see a need of any SQL BI related certification. However you can pursue MCTS etc. in .NET. Hope this helps. Best Wishes.
