I am .net developer. I am willing to learn hadoop. But what is Hadoop. How Hadoop is useful for me for career growth?

Hadoop is it's own framework like .NET. It has its own requirements. If you want to build Web projects that require lots of data processing and may have lot of traffic you can use Hadoop to build it.
