How to check website(URL) is up or not via JavaScript/JQuery

Hello everyone I am trying to use webpage with JavaScript to check if a web server is responding. I was thinking to show like: URL : www.google.com Status : Active...site is up!!! URL : www.yahoo.com Status : In Active...site is down!!! Provide me solution on this how can i proceed. Thanks in advance.
