AFAIK you cannot attach database created in a higher version to a lower sql server version . Even backup file won't work. Here's what you can do 1. Download & install sql compare tools (SqlDelta RedGate) create a new Db in the 2008r2 sql then import all objects and data from 2012 to 2008r2 using the compare tool. 2. Generate scripts for the db objects in SSMS of SQL 2012 and run that scripts in the 2008R2 SSMS. Have your own copy of this version and install your own SQL 2008R2 so you won't have problem in the future. (Please take note that on both cases there may be objects that may not be compatible in the lower version so might have to adjust the scripts.) 3. If possible just install SQL 2012 Express on the client. Hope this helps.
