How To maintain state of fileupload Control during postback in asp.net

Question

hi...........
i have a problem in accessing filename in uploadfile control in asp.net. During postback of any button the filename becomes null. I use Fileupload.attribute["value"] property but the dat becomes null. How can i maintain filename during postback of page.
please give me the reply soon.

Hi All thanks for the answers ... I have tried all the above logic but after uploading the file when I press the F5 button the file again gets uploaded to the same location.... or it is trying to upload the same. One thing i have tried which is working fine but I dont think it is preferrable. let me know your views regarding the same. What I did is I have redirected the page to the same page after uploading the file. I have used response.redirect('Page Name'); It is not working when I tried the same with server.transfer('Page Name'); So try the above and let me know if it is preferrable or not... You cant maintain the state of a fileupload control during postback in asp.net. You need to store the values in session object to maintain its state. Below code will help you a lot. if (Session[  UploadControl  ] == null && fuUpload.HasFile) { Session[  UploadControl ] = fuUpload; Label1.Text = fuUpload.FileName; } else if (Session[  UploadControl  ] != null && (! fuUpload.HasFile)) { fuUpload= (FileUpload) Session[  UploadControl  ]; Label1.Text = fuUpload.FileName; } else if (fuUpload.HasFile) { Session[  UploadControl  ] = fuUpload; Label1.Text = fuUpload.FileName; } Mark this post as answered if this post really helps you.

You can try this.............. string str1 = FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName; string str2 = Path .GetFileName(str1); string str3 = E:\Uploaded Files ; FileUpload1.PostedFile.SaveAs( Path .Combine(str3 str2));
