How to NUNIT test a MVC application?

Question

Hello!! Please help me how to nunit test. I have a method in the controller and i want to unit test it with the concept of mocking. Can anyone guide me through on Nunit testing?

Putting return type as void means you are not going to return anything from the action method then in the test method what you are going to compare with the expected value? We need some return value from the action method to the test method to compare with the expected value with the actual value. In the other way you can return some bool value true/false if you getting an exception and compare the return value in the test method with the expected value. Otherwise you can use the IsTrue() method to verify the return value. [TestMethod] public void About() { // Arrange HomeController controller = new HomeController(); // Act bool val = controller.About(); // Assert Assert.IsTrue(val); }

But you still have actionresult as the return type. Can i test a method like public void abc() ? Because when i do i am getting a expection that cannot convert void to ViewResult.

You can write test methods for [NonAction] methods as same as other action methods. e.g.: Controller Method ---------------------- [NonAction] public ActionResult About() { ViewBag.Message = Your application description page.; return View(); } Test Method --------------- [TestMethod] public void About() { // Arrange HomeController controller = new HomeController(); // Act ViewResult result = controller.About() as ViewResult; // Assert Assert.AreEqual(Your application description page. result.ViewBag.Message); }

Thanks Ranjeet. But can you tell me how to write a test method for a NON-Action method? Beacuse in the links you mentioned i didnt find it.
