Are you talking here about the information which COM components store in the Windows registry? If so then you can prevent anything being written to the registry using a technique known as registry-free COM. The information is then either stored as a resource or as a separate file which is installed with the component. This technique has been available since XP days and so isn't something new in Windows 7.
