thanks for the reply me but still its not working dear .. i m using gui tools of mysql 5.1 .. and its not working on there so please help me how can i rename database name in mysql ..... thanks in Advance

Earlier version of mYsql having syntax rename database db_name newname but its removed in new versions .as it has some problems with my sql so simply follow below 3 commands Run this 3 commands at cmd mysqldump - u username - p - v olddatabase > olddbdump . sql mysqladmin - u username - p create newdatabase mysql - u username - p newdatabase olddbdump . sql if my answer helps you then please check do you like this answer check box :-)

According to the MySQL manual the RENAME DATABASE syntax was introduced in version 5.1. One suggestion I encountered is to stop MySQL locate the directory that holds your data (on my system this is /var/lib/mysql/ /) and rename the directory. When you restart the MySQL service check your grant table and update any user accounts as necessary. more info
