how to retrieve images from database sequentially in updatep

how to retrieve images from database sequentially in updatepanel (like 6 images in 6 image controls) so the user don't have to wait until all the 6 images retrieved, so when it retrieve the first image display it then it retrieve the second and then display it and so for the rest of the 6 images any tips, help or idea
