How to setup SMTP server on widows xp profession?

I have BSNL broadband also so will installing SMTP server cause any problem? Please can you give step wise instruction to install it... If SMTP server is already installed how do i know it???? plzz help

First of all you need a mail server setup. This can be done by your network person. After setup configure that server mail ip to your system (most cases this is optional). So contact your network teams for more support.

Ok Suthish Actually i dnt know how it works so need to know that... I am new to this technology... Want to know in a particular website how emails are delivered and the technical things... Like for ex in this site we have options to contact other members send messages.. I mean interacting. How it works????

Kavita You need do a web search lots of information available depends upon your server configuration. Also keep in mind just installing SMTP do not work. You need a mailing server from where mails get triggered. This ip/port get to be configured on your server.

Hi Suthish Is it so difficult to install? I have checked as u mentioned... I can see Default SMTP Virtual server running.. Does it mean SMTP server is installed

Right Click Computer + Select Manage + go to IIS + you can see SMTP folder if configured. Else under Inetbub folder mailroot got created. Better contact your system administrator to do this installation and configuration.
