how to update rows one after other

hi friends In Ado.net how to update rows one after the other in a particular table when there is a condition for limit let me say if(ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count==0) { // Update the first row //after that // update second row.....so...on // this happens in a asp.net page can this be done like this int rowpionter=0; While(rowpionter { update tbl_name set col_name=' 'col1_name=' ' where colPK='ds.Tables[0].Rows[rowpointer].ItemArray[0].Tostring(); rowpionter++; } } this is when database is having 10 records the next record should not be inserted but updated and then next should be updated Thanxs for u r help Bye rajesh

So do you need to add 10 records if and only if there are not any records? If so then I think you need to use insert not update. You cannot use rowpointer like that to specify what the order is to be in the table. You need to have a column in the table that can be used to determine the order of the rows in the table. You cannot assume that records (rows) will exist in a specified order; you must have a column (or columns) to determine order. The default order for a table is usually determined by the Primary Key. Do you understand what a Primary Key is?

Hi I cant understand your need. Please explain more. Why you need to update rows one by one? What were the difficulties you found in sql UPDATE ?
