How to use Timer

I want a form to be loaded for say 5 secondsand after the 5 seconds is over i want that the current form should close automatically and the second form should display...

Add the timer. Set the interval to 5min (300s(30000ms)) Use the activated event on the form to start the timer when the form activates. Use the Tick event to excecute the code you want. private void Form1_Activated(object sender EventArgs e) { timer1.Start(); } private void timer1_Tick(object sender EventArgs e) { //check if a child windows form is open //then close //open a new window form } But you need to have one window form open where you are going to place your timer. Otherwise this will not work

Try this private void timer1_Tick(object sender EventArgs e) { this.Hide(); Form1 f = new Form1(); f.ShowDialog(); } private void Form2_Load(object sender EventArgs e) { Timer MyTimer = new Timer(); MyTimer.Interval = 5000; MyTimer.Tick += new EventHandler(timer1_Tick); MyTimer.Start(); } This will just hide the form.. As Akkiraju Ivaturi said it is not possible to show another form with out having a form in open state
