public class Branch { [Key] public int Branch_code{ get; set; } } if that doesn't works try in this way Entity Framework CodeFirst recognize the key by default by name. Valid names are Branch_code or Branch_code. Your property should named Branch_code Another way is to use the ModelBuilder to specify the key. Sample public class MyDbContext : DbContext { public DbSet Branches{ get; set; } protected override void OnModelCreating(ModelBuilder modelBuilder) { modelBuilder.Entity .HasKey(x => x.Branch_code); base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder); } }

Hi If you want to validate Branch_code field in View page you can define there or you can give validation message at model also. In model you can define like this. public class Employee { [Required] public string Name { get ; set ; } [Required] [Email] public string Email{ get ; set ; } }
