As Edda said DOC format is not a web-friendly format also you cannot stream it to a web response. If you do return it it will get downloaded but not displayed within the browser. If your goal is to view DOC and PDF files as images in a Web Page you might need to use a toolkit (Leadtools) that supports loading document formats. Streaming a file directly to the Response will work but only for PDFs browsers cannot render DOCs. So what you can try is to manipulate with DOC files in .NET in order to transform (convert) those Word documents to PDFs in C# and then use the same approach that Satyapriya mentioned.
