((TextBox)UserControl1.FindControl(UserTextBox1)).BackColor = Red; or ((TextBox)UserControl1.FindControl(UserTextBox1)).BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Name.Red; If using MasterPage then ((TextBox) ((UserControl) this.Master.FindControl(UserControl1)).FindControl(UserTextBox1)).BackColor = Red;
