html control vs asp control in asp.net webform

Question

My question is that using only html controls instead of asp control in asp.net website is better idea or not..? i just want to use html control because in my form there is a dropdown list in which when i select country it automatically detect the state of that country and display in state dropdown without refreshing the webpage.

so can i apply this ajax method to asp dropdown or not..?

acually one of my friend told me that by using html control, your site will be light weighted thats why i am using html tags(input type="text">) in place of asp controlo (ex;-<asp:textbox> )

Hi, You can use html controls, if you don't need any operation to be done with them in the server side. Html tags can be accessed only in client side. Hence their execution will be faster as nothing has to be done in server side. If you want to get them at server side, you can just add a runat="server" with them. On the other hand asp controls can be accessed from server side as well as client side and supports all functionality of html controls as well. Your question about binding something on dropdown change using ajax can be achieved with asp controls also. You can prevent them from postback. So if you have got nothing to do with server side, then you can go with html controls. Else it is better to use asp controls. Hi Yes it will be help better to use html control. Region when we use asp.net controls on that first the asp.net control converted in html control and then pass to requested web browser. if we use html on that case it will reduce the execution time on server for control and site will be faster . I also prefer to use html control insted of .net controls

No problem. Only thing is then you will have to manage everything that a asp.net engine gives you out of the box without any headache. For example, state management of the controls and an event driven programming model. You should be aware of what you will run into. These are the strategic decisions. So long as you know what you will miss out, and will manage without that, then should be okay.
