huge updates will not dowload

Question

 One of the latest Windows updates  is so large I have not been able to upload it over my connection wich is max 1 meg a second. After 12 or more hours  the update failed mulitple times.  I have given up trying.  Using a inspiron with i7 desk top.

1. Is there a way arount this?
2. Can I just ingore updates.?
3. I am unsing avast anti virius.
