Be careful what you ask for; you will likely get it here. I suspect that what you want is not what your question asks for. Do you want to exclude just the tags or do you want to show the document formatted or do you want to show just the text? I suspect that retrieve in gridview means you need to show the documents formatted.

create an item template put a label control and bind the data. Alos learns about Server.HTMLEncode and Server.HTMLDecode
