Identify File without Extension

Question

Hi Is there any way to identify a file without extension (Egs:-if i remove extension of a file..the type will be changed into FILE.) Cheers! V

People can't provide samples if they don't know what you need samples of. If the previous replies do not help then you need to specify what types of files that the files might be. If you don't know what the possibilities are then you simply can't do what you want to do.

If your question is whether you can check the TYPE of file then the answer is that it depends on the type of file. Image files for example are fairly easy. JPGs GIFs and PCX image files all have distinct headers.. You open the file read a few bytes into memory and see what they are. Dave

Yes you can but you won't find the file name inside the file itself.

you're asking if its possible to determine the file type for a file without an extension? I'd say based solely on my Windows experience no. -James
