Import excel data into sharePoint

Question

I have created a custom list on Sharepoint and now I need to take information from various cells in my Excel sheet and upload the data into the list on Sharepoint. I do not want to post the entire Excel file to Sharepoint. I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any experience with this? or even know if it is possible? Thanks for any help!

Hi When you go on to your list or library you can see there is an option Export to Excel on the ribbon. You can choose the columns you want on the view and click on that button Export to excel to get a desired set of results as an output. Do let me know if you face any concern.

Apply filtering on excel and have the schema same as of SharePoint list. This will simplify the importing process.
