Hi Vineet Interoperability enables you to preserve and take advantage of existing investments in unmanaged code. Code that runs under the control of the common language runtime (CLR) is called managed code  and code that runs outside the CLR is called unmanaged code . COM COM+ C++ components ActiveX components and Microsoft Win32 API are examples of unmanaged code. As all .NET language compilers produce Common Intermediate Language (CIL) then it is possible for different languages to interoperate with each other. For example a C# executable could use a class library written in VB.NET. For an example of this check out this article: http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/uploadfile/cd3aa3/language-interoperability/ It is also possible for C# to interoperate with unmanaged code. There are two mechanisms for this: 1. COM interop for interoperating with COM servers such as Microsoft Office. 2. Platform Invoke (DllImport attribute) for interoperating with other unmanaged dlls such as the Win32 API.
